Banner Security Alert!
Do NOT always believe banner ads! Even if they are on reputable sites! Free sites tend to have banner ads and don't always advertise things that the owner of the site even knows about or approves of.
Such as the banner ads on the Proboards here. I do not approve of so many and have complained on the support forums about this (as well as it looks like at least one other person has (more than me) in another section there) but unless they pop out of your screen or pop up or under or make noises or download something to your computer by just you mousing over it, they will NOT do anything about it!
Members can see fake job ad banners in the member's section that a girl started but it is a growing problem (I feel) that now isn't just fake job ads but just any fake ad to encourage people to dish out money on a site that is not reputable (most people do NOT know how to research sites and tend to believe what they see is safe unless it is obvious .. which it usually is not) and expect to get something back (be it a product or a job) which they never do!
Today on our forums I found a 2 part banner (looked like 2 ads) which both sides bring you to two different sites! BOTH fake news sites (seems to be typical of these type of banners).
Because Proboards will not do anything about it at this time since none of their rules are being broken, I thought at least I can warn people about it.
So here is the banner ad I saw on our very own forums here:
(attached and embedded here)
The one called:
"Mom Makes $77/Hr Online
Unemployed Mom Makes $6,397/Month Working Online.
Learn More"
links to:
which forwards you to:
and has code on it such as:
and
and
which the tomorrow.js is:
which they use to try to convince you that this is in your area and recent.
and then the one called:
"DON'T Pay For White Teeth
Mom discovers one simple trick to turn yellow teeth white from home for under $4
Learn More"
links to:
which redirects you to:
Has code to make it look like the person who has found such a great online deal is right in your area:
According to this could even lead to malware??
www.malware-control.com/statics-pages/85bfa1931583f45a5388af22806b8d88.php
and the teeth images have been reused anywhere from 10 to 22 times on many sites:
www.tineye.com/search/7248bd4d7a64a501d2a5ded0902bb0ee01a41c7e/
www.tineye.com/search/b3784be1083d85ddb58d3ee8c03c90d00241759a/
BOTH are fake news sites that try to get you to fall for their claim and pay for what they are advertising. They try to get past legalities by having it say advertisement at the top and at the bottom in fine print saying that everything could be made up and that you do have to pay money.
But what I also noticed in the page code is that it is manipulative and says (where you see in the one screenshot where I blurred it out) that the fake job was in your very own city! Also fake! They use a GeoLocation code in the site to discover where you are viewing the page from. Easy to do and they have done it. They do the same with the date saying it expires tomorrow and then it says tomorrow's date. This is to make you act fast before you get your wits about you and think about this logically before you send out that money!
* A member of our forums found another like the fake job news site another time on our Proboard forums and posted it in the members only read section: brantkidney.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nationalsecurity&action=display&thread=49
